It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother and friend, Jeanette Marie McKinnon. She passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by loving family members and friends.
Born in Glace Bay, Jeanette was the daughter of the late Henry and Ester Gouthro.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Glace Bay.
Jeanette will be missed by many. In her 40-year career as an RN, she touched the lives of many people. Her numerous friends and family members carry Jeanette in a special place in their heart; as their lives were made better by her presence.
Before her retirement in 2004, Jeanette was director of nursing at the Northside General Hospital.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Alumni and St. Jude’s Catholic Nurses Guild.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Darlene, Halifax; two brothers, Gerard (Valerie), Glace Bay, and Henry, Kitchener, Ont. Also surviving are Jeanette’s extended family, Dave and Mary Tobin, Sydney Mines, Dale and Irene Sharkey, Boisdale, Bill and Neicey McNeil, Halifax, Art and Iris Cosgrove, Halifax, Lauchie McKinnon, Sydney, Denise and Rick Prudhomme, Calgary, Melvin McKinnon, Alberta, Carol Anne Oram, Sydney; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and close family friend, Kevin (Arlene) McLeod, Glace Bay.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, brother, John ‘Brother’ Gouthro, sisters-in-law, Tina Gouthro and Anita (Henry) Gouthro.
Visitation will take place Thursday evening, 7-9 p.m. and Friday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery followed by a reception in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Northside General Hospital Foundation.
