Claude Huntley, 90, of Admiralty Court, Sydney, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Frank and Catherine (MacLeod) Huntley.
A veteran of the Second World War, Claude served in Normandy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the Fort Garry Armored Regiment of Winnipeg.
He was formerly employed with Marine Atlantic Pilotage Authority in Sydney, Saint John, Cornwall, Ottawa and Halifax.
Claude was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 12, Sydney, and the Normandy Veterans Association, life-member of the Bras d’Or Yacht Club and honorary commodore of the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club.
Surviving are his daughters, Susan (Ken) Latham, Herring Cove, and Patti (Brian) Murray, Calgary; grandchildren, Jamie (Deanna), Peter, Laura, Nicole and Kristen (Dean Dockerill); great-grandchildren, Morgan, Jim and Colby; son-in-law, Charles MacInnis; and longtime friend, Jan Pledge and the Van Regermortel family of Braaschaat, Belgium, where he was honoured in 2003 by the town.
Claude was predeceased by his wife, Edith, daughter, Joanne MacInnis, sister, Kay, brother, Alex.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church today (Saturday), 2 p.m. with Nancy Whitney-Latham, DLM, officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church or the An Cala palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
