STRONGE, Maurita F. – 85, of Spencer’s Island, Cumberland Co. passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Spencer’s Island, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Madeline (Smith) McLellan. Maurita was a very active community member with the Advocate U.C.W., the Bayview Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Advocate United Church and Spencer’s Island Union Church and was a choir member with both churches. She also enjoyed senior’s luncheons, quilting and bingo. She is survived by a daughter, Helen Elderkin (Paul), Brookside; sons, Eric (Pat), Advocate Harbour; William (Patricia), Fraserville; a sister, Frances Stewart, Sarnia, Ont.; a brother, Ralph McLellan (Heather), Spencer’s Island; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Conrad; a sister, Doris; a granddaughter, Angela. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today [Friday, October 30, 2009] at Spencer’s Island Union Church, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday [October 30, 2009], Rev. Jean Simms-Mills and Rev. Donald Hirtle officiating. Burial in the Advocate Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Spencer’s Island Union Church or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
