Chappell, Myrtle Lena - age 97, Fenwick, died Nov. 2nd, 2009 in Bayview Memorial Health Centre, Advocate, NS. Born in Fenwick, she was a daughter of the late Bowden and Ada (Bowlsby) Ripley.
She is survived by her daughter Lynn of Fenwick, two sons; Brian (Norma) of Bedford, Barry (Donna) of Sackville, NS, four grandchildren Kathy (Pat), Andrew, Anson (Michelle), Sara (Neil) and three great grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah and Darrah and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan; sister Nita Gilroy and brother Bradford Ripley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Myrtle enjoyed playing the piano and various other instruments. For many years she was the Fenwick Church organist and also was very active in the Fenwick United Church, UCW, Fenwick Sewing Circle and supported church suppers, charities, plays and Sunday School. She was a long time member and organizer of the Golden Echoes Band in Amherst. Myrtle enjoyed making quilts, many for the family and also for the Church charity raffles. Myrtle was a correspondent for several years to the Amherst Daily News reporting on Fenwick activities. Later in life she enjoyed writing books and had several published.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, NS with the funeral service being held in the Fenwick United Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Rev. Pam Bowman and Rev. Marion Lloy officiating. Interment will take place in the Fenwick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fenwick United Church or charity of your choice.
