Peter Klassen, age 81, entered Heaven peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre. He was born on December 31, 1929, to Martin & Helena Klassen on the family farm near Gouldtown, SK. He married Mary Penner of Glen Kerr on July 10, 1960. They moved a few times before settling in Morse for 22 years and then moved to Herbert. Peter worked at several places before he attained a job at the Herbert Nursing Home. Due to his heart condition he retired early. He had major heart surgery in 2002, and surprisingly pulled through. Peter & Mary had six children and they would faithfully drive them from Morse to Glen Kerr for Sunday School and Church. Peter accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized in the Sommerfeld Church. Later he became a member of the Glen Kerr Community Church. He loved a good crokinole game and it would bring a smile to his face. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, listening to music, gardening and riding bike. He loved his family and enjoyed all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren even though it was loud, because of the hearing aid. Peter leaves to mourn his wife, Mary, of 51 years; his family, Heather Curtis - Candace & Tyson White (son, Liam), Codi Gammel (son, Zayne): Bradley & Shannon Klassen - Braeden, Chelsea: Merle & Norman Lemay - Dallas, Sydney, Mikayla: Lorna & Trevor Dyck - Wyatt, Leighton: Faye & Dean Kern - Kaitlynn, Sandra, Donavon, Graham: Russell & Tammy Klassen - Tyrus, Finlay. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 25, 2011, at 1:00 pm from the Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Blair Froese officiating. The pianist for the service was Fern Rempel. “What a Day that Will Be”, “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” and “They that Wait Upon the Lord” were sung by the congregation. The eulogy was shared by Heather Curtis and Brad Klassen. Special music was brought by Ben, Helena Funk and John Regier singing, “Christ Receiveth Sinful Man” accompanied by Lois Klassen. The ushers in the church were Harvey Klassen and Ron Klassen. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Harold Dueck, Phil Klassen, Wesley Klassen, Dennis Penner, Rodney Zacharias and Ed Craft. In Memory of Peter Klassen, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Palliser Regional Care Centre Donation Fund or to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
