SHARKEY, BERNARD JOSEPH Sr. - After a long and courageous battle with his illness, Bernie Sharkey, husband of Jean (Richards) Sharkey, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011. He was born on September 15, 1928, in Saint John to the late Michael and Christina (Gray) Sharkey. Bernie worked for all his life in the City Market, first, for T.S. Fenwick, then for Deans. His working life spanned over forty years. Bernie was the toast of the market, everybody knew him. Besides his wife Jean, Bernie is survived by his sons, Bernard “Bernie” Jr. and William “Bill” both of Saint John; grandchildren: Jody and Jennifer and sister, Joan Kirkpatrick. He was predeceased by his and brother, Roy Sharkey.
At Bernie’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in Fernhill Cemetery on Friday, December 2, 2011, at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
