Born in Christmas Island, Joseph was the eldest son of Mrs. Annie MacKenzie and the late Roddie MacKenzie. He graduated from the Vocational School in 1968 and was employed as an electrician for over 30 years with DEVCO, retiring in 1999.
He was a devout Catholic and served as an Eucharistic minister at St. Theresa’s Church for several years. He was active in the Clan MacKenzie Association and the Ashby Home and School Association.
Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife and best friend of 38 years, Bernice (Tramble); his son, J.J. (Joseph James) and Stefanie and their children, Joshua and Mary Brenna; his daughter, Catherine Anne and Tommy and their children Kaylynn, Riley, Taylor, and Carter; his mother, Annie, sisters, Anna (Gerald) Moore, Rosemary MacNeil, Shirley (Nick) Vilas, Mary Lucina (Sandy) MacNeil; brothers, Ronnie (Eileen), Charles, James (Jackie), David Brian (Arlene), Michael (Cathy); brother-in-law, Billy, Joey (Tracey), Danny (Judy) Fortune, and Maurice Nottingham; sisters-in-law, Anna (Earl) Peeples and Helen Chesson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Fred MacKenzie (age 7).
Joseph will be fondly remembered as a tireless worker who could lend his hand to anything and offered it freely to anyone who might need it. His gentle nature, many acts of kindness, infectious laugh and good cheer will remain in our hearts. He was a devout family man who delighted in his grandchildren who benefited from Pap’s knack of making each feel extra special. His happiest times were spent with family and friends at his summer home in Christmas Island.
