It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Lewis Romeo, on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines on December 16, 1931, Lewis was the son of the late Peter and Anne (Goodwin) Romeo. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. He was also a 3rd Degree Member of Santa Maria Council, Knights of Columbus. Lewis was employed with Devco for 38 years, retiring in 1987.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 52 years, Madonna (MacIntyre) Romeo; sons, Lieutenant Colonel Dale Romeo, Ottawa, and John (Belinda) Romeo, North Sydney; daughters, Anne (John) Evans, Alberta, Donna (Gary) Cox, Sydney Mines, Beverly (Rick) Beehler, Victoria, BC and Debbie (Jim) Gwinn, Sydney Mines. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jay, Melissa, David, Ryan, Mary, Stacy, Lewis, Jenna, Brett, Jessica, Matthew and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Steven and Anna Evans; brothers, Frank (Bessie), Angus (Eileen), both of Sydney Mines, Stanley (Bernice), Boularderie; sisters, Pauline MacMullin, Dartmouth, Nora Huntley, Sydney, Mella (Russell), Truro, Ethel, Ontario, Lauretta (Ken) Byrne, North Sydney, Theresa Romeo (Scott), Boularderie, Marguerite Romeo, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Eileen Romeo, Marie Romeo; brother-in-law, John MacDougall, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Lewis was predeceased by brothers, John and Peter; sister, Rose MacDougall and brothers-in-law, John D. MacMullin, Warren Huntley and Gerald Lyle.
Visitation for Lewis Romeo will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass celebrating his life will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John and Lewis’ nephew Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the Centennial Room of Immaculate Conception Church.
Donations in memory of Lewis may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
