
Mary Veronica Hanlon (nee Duffy)
The family of Vera are sad to announce that Mom passed away at St. Peters Hospital in Hamilton, on November 30th 2011 with the same faith, dignity, strength, love and determination that she had lived during her 91 years of life. She was predeceased by her parents John and Margaret Duffy and her 10 brothers and sisters of Port au Port, Newfoundland. Left to mourn are her sons: John (Edith), Alban (Katharine), Gerard (Mary), Patrick (Shaunda), Michael (Brenda), and her daughters: Josephine Massel (the late John 2011), Monica Long (James), Bridget Ann Threader, Carmelita Visheau (Eddie), Debbie Rutgers (John), Penny Suljak (John) with whom she resided. Mom’s faith and prayers saw her through the loss of her beloved infant daughter, Elizabeth Irene (1963) and her most beloved sons, Charles (1970) and Hughie (2003). She mourned the loss of grandchildren Eddie Visheau Jr. (1970), Leonard Hanlon (1981) and Bridget Threader (1986) and great-grandchild Cody Robillard (1993), and our dad John Hanlon in 1997. Nanny will always be remembered with love and admiration by 46 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews from the Duffy, Felix, Rumboldt, Chaisson and Campbell Families in Newfoundland and across Canada. Thank you to Dr. Bev and the exceptional Nurses on 3E of St. Peters Hospital for their care of Mom and the support they have given us. Visitation will be held at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East in Hamilton, Ontario (at Kenilworth) today, Friday December 2nd from 1-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church (Corner of Kenilworth Ave. and Cannon St.) Saturday December 3rd at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Burlington, Ontario.
