PRIEST, Evelena Blanche - 94, Economy, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 8, 2009, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born May 27, 1915, in Pleasant Hills, she was a daughter of the late David and Bridget (Randall) Newton. She was a very talented lady who was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting, knitting and loved to cook. This past summer she had her items for sale at the Glooscap Bazaar in Economy, just as she had for many years. Her family and many friends will miss her bread, doughnuts, pies, canned fruits and pickles. She was very active and took care of most of the household chores. She really enjoyed the Sunday drives Don took her on and she especially enjoyed visiting the Barber family of Apple River and special friend, Bobby Willigar in Springhill. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Evelena is survived by her children, Donald Priest, Economy; Vivian Bethune, Lincoln, Maine; Donna Colborne, British Columbia; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Priest; daughter, Dorothy; sisters, Mary Gamble, Freda Starritt, Annie Pettigrew, Etta Boggs, Helen Suttis, Verdi Newton; brothers, Clarence and Eldridge Newton; son-in-law, Percy Bethune; special companion, James Welton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Evelena’s family will receive friends from 11-12 Tuesday, November 10, 2009, followed by the funeral service at 1 pm, Reverend Florence Antle-Brison officiating. Interment in Economy Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Evelena’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
