It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Viola Agnes Brown at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Nov. 7, 2009.
She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel Brown and Freda Agnes (Colburn) Brown, her brother, Howard Daniel Brown, Chester, N.S., and a sister, Freda Elizabeth (Brown) Griffin, Ontario.
She survived by her brother, James C. Brown and sister-in-law, Dena (Smith) Brown, Woodstock, N.B., Robert Brown, Lakeside, N.S., Daniel Brown, Enfield, N.S.; nieces, Heather (Griffin) Moses, Parry Sound, Ont., Lynn (Griffin) Caryn, Tellsonburg, Ont. She is sadly missed by grand nephews, Anthony, Matthew, Nicholas, Aaron, Christopher, Daniel and James, as well as grand nieces, Kandise, Krista, Andrea, Elizabeth, Tiffany, Carol Ann and Sarah.
Viola’s working career was with the Royal Bank of Canada, Sydney Mines which spanned a period of 36 years.
Viola was an accomplished and prolific painter in oils. She was also a talented crafts person and seamstress who relished in trying a new pattern or pursuing a new idea in needlepoint, crochet, knitting, quilting or simply combining material to form a novelty ornament that would please the eye. Viola was also a devoted member of and a willing worker for St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12-2 p.m. at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be held in chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Marion Barklay McKay officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery.
In memory of Viola, donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Comfort Fund.
