The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, November 7, 2009, of Gladys Elizabeth MacEwen (nee Fitzsimmons) of Summerside and formerly of Sherbrooke, P.E.I., aged 78 years. Gladys was born on May 23, 1931, in Long River, P.E.I., to her late parents Linus and Catherine (nee Gillis) Fitzsimmons. Beloved wife of the late Byron MacEwen and loving mother of Betty Praught (Bill) of Clyde River, Paul (Tracey) of Kensington, and Stephen (Noelle) of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Laurie Anne (Dierk) Hohman, Pam (Andrew) Dennis, Shelby Lee Cole, great-grandchildren Carter Praught, Hannah and Harrison Hohman and Hudson and Preston Dennis and very special friend Charlie Corkum of Summerside. Survived by her brothers and sisters: Jean Hogg, James (Angela) Fitzsimmons, Ralph (Ruth) Fitzsimmons, Emmett (Shirley) Fitzsimmons, Hilda Fitzsimmons, Billy (Anne) Fitzsimmons, Earl (Dolly) Fitzsimmons, Ethel Lucianno and sisters-in-law Barb, Helen and Gerri MacEwen. Besides her parents and her husband, Gladys was predeceased by her brother-in-law Russell Hogg. Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside, until Tuesday, November 10, then to St. Paul’s Church, Summerside, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in St. Mary’s-Holy Family Church Cemetery, Indian River. Visiting hours on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations in Gladys’ memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Church Cemetery Fund, Indian River, would be greatly appreciated.
