It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Riley (Junior) Morris, 69, resident of Marconi Street, on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Riley and Mary (Dolimont) Morris.
Junior was employed for a number of years with Martell’s Construction Ltd. and in recent years as a driver with Stagg’s Taxi. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19, North Sydney, where he enjoyed playing in the dart league and bowling with the seniors group. He was a member of St. Joseph Church.
Surviving is his loving soulmate and companion, Gertie Slade; stepdaughter, Wendy (Alan) Sampson, Sydney Mines; stepsons, David Slade, Sydney, Eric Slade, North Sydney; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Bonnie (Nagdi) Abdelkhair, Alberta, Bev Sampson (Markuss Pridgeon), Halifax; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Makayla MacNeil, Halifax; brothers, Ken (Anne) Morris, North Sydney, Jack (Marilyn) Morris, Balls Creek, Stewart (Theresa) Morris, Stellarton; sisters, Sadie (Stan) O’Toole, Bras d’Or, Madeline Ross, St. Catharines, Ont.; sister-in-law, Pauline Gear; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his little fury friend ‘Baby’.
Junior was predeceased by his brother, Richard (Dick) Morris, sisters, Lucy, Arthena, Frances and Margaret.
Visitation for Junior will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
