Wallace Dow
Wallace "Wally" W. Dow, age 77, of River Hebert, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, while surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 4, 2011.
Born in River Hebert, he was a son of the late Harry and Ella (Rector) Dow.
Wally was a contractor by trade but a horseman by choice. He loved horse pulls, using horse drawn farm implements and in season giving sleigh rides. He truly believed that Percheron was the best breed.
His contracting career started out in the 60's doing roofing, siding and home renovations, moving into foundations and all types of concrete work. He remained actively involved until August of this year.
A member and Past Master of the King Edward Masonic Lodge #86, a Past Patron of the Order Of The Eastern Star, Brittania Chapter #18, Past Patron of Golden Star Chapter #52, and past member of the Philae Shriners. An active member and Deacon of the River Hebert Baptist Church.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of over 55 years the former Anne McLachlan, River Hebert; son Bill (Colleen), Truemanville; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea, Alex and Jessica; sister Juanita Hibberts, Toronto; Clara Bishop, Riverview, NB; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Christopher, daughter Anne Margaret; brother Elroy.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the River Hebert Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 11 am, Rev. Philip Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert.
