It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of James Routledge on Nov. 9, 2009, at the Glace Bay Hospital. He is remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Katie Routledge, brothers, Bobby (twin) and Sonny.
Jimmy will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy (nee Nearing) and their children, Sandra Howie Aucoin (Gerald), George Howie (Jaime), J.D. Routledge and Kim Routledge (Ron). He always had a special love for his grandchildren, and they, for him — Cory, Robyn, Mairi, Ashleen, Roy, Bobby, Chance, Shoshauna and Dawson. He is also survived by sisters, Marie Graham (Hap), Ann LeBlanc (Willie); brothers, Cameron (Kaye), Davy (Leslie); sisters-in-law, Doris Routledge, Patsy Routledge, Sandra Rafferty; brothers-in-law, Gordon and Buddy Nearing.
Jimmy was employed with Devco for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He was a fan and a lover of sports. He excelled in baseball, softball, broomball; played Colliery League hockey and recreational curling.
Our special thanks to all his caregivers over the past year, including Dr. David Ley and his staff, who were always there for Jimmy, the nurses and staff of third west, telemetry and ICU; the VON, home care and palliative care.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church.
