Private family memorial services for Mr. Gerald ‘Jerry’ Munroe of Glace Bay, N.S., will be held at the Beechwood National Military Cemetery in Ottawa, Ont.
Gerald ‘Jerry’ Munroe passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011 at Glace Bay Hospital, N.S.
Jerry was born in Glace Bay, July 1, 1930, the son of Alex and Margaret (Brodie) Munroe.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served as a medic rising to the rank of sergeant. He trained and worked for many years after his military service as an X-ray technician and certified electrician. He was an enthusiastic trumpet and coronet player and a member of numerous community bands including, Glace Bay Community Band, Sydney Mines Centennial Legion Band, The Second Wind Band and the Donkin Band. His favourite pastime was listening to the “Big Band” music full blast. He was also an avid CB radio operator for many years.
Jerry was predeceased by parents, Alex and Margaret (Brodie), wife of 41 years, Joyce Matthews, brother, Gordon and sisters, Phyllis and Sally.
He is survived by children, Capt. Robert Munroe and wife Donna, Ontario, Dr. Janet Munroe and husband Steve, South Carolina, Linda Munroe-Price and husband Darcy, British Columbia, Const. Kelly Munroe and wife Huma, Ontario; grandchildren, Brenna, Julia, Rob, Sabiha, Maliha, Maryah; and sisters Margery (Neil) MacDougall, Glace Bay, Sheila (Cliff) Cross, Glace Bay.
Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice.
