It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. After a brave and courageous fight Marion, age 78, left us peacefully on Nov. 8, 2009 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in New Glasgow, she graduated from St Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish, after which she moved to Halifax to pursue her career as a Registered Nurse. She dedicated over 30 years of caring and giving until her retirement from Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital. Long before the term work-life balance was around Marion was proof that you could have a fulfilling career and be a fabulous wife and mother.
Marion always lived life to the fullest, taking the time to lend a hand to anyone in need. She found pure joy in spending time with her family and in her favorite place in the world, Melmerby Beach. After her retirement she pursued her dream of becoming an artist and went on to create beautiful oil paintings capturing seascapes and wilderness scenes for her family to enjoy.
Marion is survived by her loving daughter Paula Mason, son-in-law John and his mother Daisy, and “her angel” grandson Frankie.
She is also survived by brothers: Jack (Pat), Bob (Laura), Ducky (Viola) Sonny (Darla) and Harvey MacLean; sisters, Kaye (Jim) MacDonald and Betty (Roddie) Flavin; sister-in-law, Doris; many loving nieces and nephews, special friends: Shirley Kane, Helen Stewart and Judy (John) Holland.
She was predeceased by husband, Frank; parents, Hugh John and Loretta (Fogarty) MacLean; beloved brother, Joseph MacLean; and sister, Isabel; and brother-in-law, Albert Power.
To the staff of 9 Lane and Dr. Ernie Johnson, you have all been a blessing and have provided wonderful care and support during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes, Sackville. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church, Bedford on Saturday, November 14 at 11 a.m. Interment at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Marion to the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice
