It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Henry L. Hollett, 87, longtime resident of North Sydney, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Burin, N.L., Henry was the son of the late Harold and Elsie Hollett.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Merchant Marine from 1942-47.
Henry was employed as an engineer with the Aspy Steamship Co., Lakes Shipping and the Newfoundland Coastal Boats. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Burin, N.L., and a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
Henry was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A loving and devoted father, Henry will be sadly missed by his children, his sons, David (Theresa), Halifax, Henry (Connie), Bruce (Graca), both of Fort McMurray, John (Angela), North Sydney; his daughters, Joan (Dwight) Eveleigh, North Sydney, Donna (Larry) Buck, Southside Boularderie, Margaret Courage, North Sydney, Janice (Brian) Johnson, Penhold, Alta., Debbie (Ronnie) MacDonald, North Sydney, Carolyn (Rob) Wilkie, P.E.I., Hilda (Will) Kristman, Fort McMurray. He is also survived by his 31 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Henry was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Robertson) Hollett in 2006, and by brothers, Clyde, Malcolm, Fred and Leo, sisters, Dorothy, Mildred, Marie and his son-in-law, Fred Courage.
Visitation for Henry will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
