WILKINS, EDMUND EARL M.D. - 1930 - 2011 - Dr Edmund Wilkins died at his home in Point La Nim, New Brunswick, Canada on December 3, 2011 at the age of 81. Ed was born in San Mateo, California. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in engineering, and later, from Stanford University in medicine. He practiced family medicine in Truckee, California, for several years before moving to Canada. In Dalhousie, New Brunswick, he was the Director of the Community Health Centre. He was an Associate Professor, McGill University, for many years. After the closure of the Health Centre, Dr Wilkins worked in Dalhousie and Campbellton until the accidental fall that forced his retirement and led to his slow decline over the last 8 years. Ed is survived by his wife, Gail Carleton; by 4 daughters from a previous marriage: Anna Henderson, Ellen Hudson (Jim), Sara Fox (Pat), Maia Wilkins (Michael Levine); by two sons: Benjamin (Matilde Rink Jorgensen) and Zachary (Danielle Savage); by six grandchildren: Kelsey Hudson, Hannah and Eliza Henderson, Henry and Natalie Fox, Martin Levine; by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, E.E. (Duke) and Tulia Wilkins, his brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Peggy Wilkins, and his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Bill Boaden. Ed was an outdoorsman, never happier than when he was working in the woods, camping or skiing. A lifelong athlete, he completed a 90 km cross-country ski race in Sweden at age 70. He was a wonderful doctor, a lover of books and music, and a unique individual who will be missed by many.
