BYARD, Norma Beatrice – 86, Truro, passed away suddenly, as a result of heart complications, on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born May 20, 1925, in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Muriel (Clyke) Sheppard. Norma was a long-time member of Zion United Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed attending functions at Good Neighbours Club and was a regular blood donor. Above all, she was devoted to her family and friends and cherished all the special times they had together. Norma is survived by her children, Ingram “Butch” (Marion) Byard, Nova Byard (Steve Stunell), Belinda (Tom) Bennicke, Kim Byard, Mary Byard, Freeman (Cheryl) Byard, Percy Byard; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Byard; son, Leonard Byard; daughter, Norma Jane Clyke; sister, Mary Sheppard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Norma’s family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., today, Friday, December 16, 2011. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2011, in Zion United Baptist Church, 454 Prince Street, Truro, Pastor Brian Johnston officiating. Repast will follow. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Flowers or donations in Norma’s memory to Zion United Baptist Church (Memorial Fund) are welcomed.
