It is with great sadness in our hearts that we regret to announce the death of Mary Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ross who passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at home with her family by her side in Sydney Forks.
Born in Sydney, Betty was the daughter of Berkley and Eva (Vatcher) Evans.
Betty spent many years travelling the world as a military wife and devoted herself first to her family and later her services working in the military Canex on the Radar Base in Sydney. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and crocheting in which she created with a loving heart many gifts for her family and friends.
Betty also enjoyed a good challenge and spent countless hours with family playing several board games including her favourite, Scrabble.
Not only was family important to Betty but she made sure that she shared with them her knowledge of respect and love in which she encouraged them to instil in others.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Mike) Young, Sydney Forks; son, Ronald (Andrea) Ross, Sydney; brothers, Tommy (Rose) Evans, Bobby (Karen) Evans, Bruce Evans, all of Sydney; sisters, Sandra (Bernard) McCormick, Sydney, Donna (late John) Cameron, Keltic Drive, Joanne (Joseph) Evans, Sydney, Betty was also blessed and loved by several grandchildren, including, Scott Young, Alberta, Melissa Young, Sydney, Brent Young, Dalhousie University, Brianah and Dylan Ross, Sydney; and a beautiful great-granddaughter, Jaylin Elizabeth, Sydney.
Betty was also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends that loved her dearly.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating.
Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society or to the VON Services.
