It is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we, the family, announce the passing of Jack Poirier on Dec. 16, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Kathleen (Laphen) MacNeil and the late John T. Poirier.
Jack served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 16 years. He did tours both overseas and in Canada.
Jack was also employed in the automotive industry. He worked as a service manger with Lloyd MacDonald Nissan as well as Canadian Tire.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Osmond) Poirier; sons, John Rivers, Calgary, Alta., Richard ‘Rick’ (Kelly) Rivers, Barrie, Ont., Christopher Poirier, Sydney; four grandchildren, Taylor, Hayley, Liam, Nevaeh. He is also survived by his siblings, Joanne (Ed) O’Toole, Mississauga, Rosemary (Reg) Smith, Truro, Kathy MacNeil, New Glasgow, Hughie (Michelle) MacNeil, Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by stepfather, Walter MacNeil and brother, Billy in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
