Robert Thompson (Bob) MacLean passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011.
Bob was born in Springville April 25, 1935 the only son of the late Dan Robert (Bert) MacLean and Mary Bell (Thompson) MacLean.
Bob was a member for 55 years to Union Lodge No. 30 Springville. He played fast ball and hockey for many years for Springville teams. He graduated from the Agricultural College Advanced Farm Class in 1954 and was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church.
Bob volunteered throughout his life for many causes and organizations to make a difference for the people in the community he loved. Over the years he was honored with numerous awards including the Lady Diana Humanitarian Award (1998) and in 2011 the municipality of Pictou County Award of Recognition for Lifelong Volunteerism. He was inducted to the the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder.
Bob started his life working the family farm. He was employed at Hawker Sidley as a welder for many years. He worked in the woods all his life. His years working for the Chignecto Central Regional School Board as a bus driver were wonderful for him. Most recently he drove a blueberry truck for Roy Thompson -a job that allowed him to do what he loved most drive trucks and tell stories.
He loved to laugh with his friends at Tim Horton’s and going to card parties throughout the county.
He will be missed by his wife of 52 years Judy (MacKenzie), daughter Mary Ellen (Jonah), his sons Clarence (Robyn), David (Brenda) Allister (Connie). He will be missed by his grandchildren Sandra, David, Laura, Serena, John Robert, Sienna, Julie, Maxine, Tyler, Michelle, Nathan, Jamie. He was much loved by his eight great-grand children and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his two sisters Kaye Davidson and Helen MacLean in childhood.
Visitation will be from 7-9 pm Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Springville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Springville Cemetery.
