The family of Edwin William Cann of Sydney sadly wishes to announce his passing Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Issac William and Molley (Paterson) Cann.
Edwin worked for 40 years with the Sydney Fire Department. He was a veteran of the Second World War, seeing active duty in France and Holland. He served with the 21st Canadian Armoured Regiment of the Governor General Footguards and was a member of Branch 12 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
He is survived by his sons, Wayne (Carolyn), Ronald (Judy); and daughters, Lynn Barry (Stuart) and Susan Buist (David); son-in-law, David MacLean; brothers, George, John (Marina) and Gerald; grandchildren, David, Darryl, Deborah, Donna, Darlene, Angela, Ronald, Matthew, Jennifer, Kristen, Lindsay, Leigh, Stuart, Eric, Edward, Andrew and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria, daughter, Margaret MacLean, sisters, Dorothy MacKinnon, Noreen Colford and Yvonne Carroll.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Sydney Memorial Chapel with Rev. Maggie Coleman officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Following the service there will be a reception held at Sydney Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care or the MS Society.
