Marion J. Sheppard, 90, of Kitchener Street, Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cove Guest Home on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009.
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Naomi (Pitcher) Stevens.
Born in Clarks Beach, N.L., she moved to Sydney as an infant. She spent the remainder of her life in Whitney Pier.
She was an adherent of Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier, and was a member of the UCW and Bethany Groups. She was also a member of the church choir for many years.
Marion was a home maker and devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed baking, cooking and tending to her flower garden.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Audrey Andrews; and her son, John (Buck) Sheppard, both of Sydney; grandchildren, Lynn (Barry) Young, Sydney, Alvin (Gina) MacAulay, Gardiner Road, Gordon (Rose) MacAulay, Steven (Margaret) MacAulay and Susan, all of New Waterford, Glen MacAulay, North Bay, Ont., Philip (Dawn) Andrews, Bangor, Maine, Cliff (Heather) Andrews, Hammonds Plains, and Paul (Tammy) Andrews, Sydney; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. Marion is survived by one sister, Olive Hulford, one brother, John (Olga) Stevens, brothers-in-law, Lloyd MacPhail and Donald Morrison, Clyde Sheppard and Earl (Cork) Sheppard.
Marion was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, John Arnold (Buck) Sheppard, daughter, Mary MacAulay New Waterford, sons-in-law, Gordon MacAulay and Loddie Andrews, granddaughter, Marion Jean MacAulay, Sydney, and grandson, Jeffrey Ronald MacAulay, New Waterford. Marion was also predeceased by brothers, George, Kitchener, Ont., Harold, Donald, sisters, Eva MacPhail, Lillian Frost, Queenie Morrison, all of Sydney River, two sisters in infancy, brothers-in-law, George Hulford and Ralph Frost, and sister-in-law, Millie Stevens.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church on Wednesday Nov. 18 at 2 p.m with Rev. Maggie Coleman officiating. Interment at Hardwood Hill Cemetery, in the family plot. There will be a luncheon in the church hall following the service.
