We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Florence Milley at home with her family by her side on Nov. 15, 2009.
Born in Donkin, Aug. 25, 1921, Florence was the daughter of the late William and Lydia Wadden.
Many will fondly remember Florence from her early years at the Donkin Post Office and later as the librarian at the Donkin branch of the Cape Breton Regional Library.
She is survived by her only son, Roy (Judi), Sydney; two grandchildren who she adored, Steven (Shauna), Sydney, and Amber (Mike), St. John’s, N.L.; sister-in-law, Lillian Wadden; nieces, Jane (Fred) Boutilier, Isabel (Lee) Connors, Willena Warner, Linda Sparrow; nephew, David (Margie) Wadden; and several special cousins.
Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2001, to whom she was married for 57 years, cherished grandparents, the late Robert and Jane Atkinson who raised her, sisters, Jane Doyle, Sara Connors, brother, Joseph Wadden, brothers-in-law, Vince Doyle and Prescott Connors.
Visitation for Florence will be at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating, followed by interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Branch of the VON or Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
