Hayward, E. Marjorie (nee Lane) - 88, Crowes Mills, former long time resident of Londonderry, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born April 7, 1923, in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Bertram and Alberta (Toole) Lane. She worked at Hayward and Lane General Merchants, owned by her late husband, Rolfe, and her brother, Clifford. At 48, she sought employment at Goodman’s to earn enough money to attend Success Business College, from where she graduated with a Men’s Accounting Program Certificate. She then began her new career at Eddy Group from where she retired in 1988. Marjorie loved adventure and trying new things. Always an avid sports fan, she played on a women’s baseball team in 1937. She enjoyed watching baseball, hockey, curling, and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and all her other favourite teams. In 1992 she attended the first two World Series Games played in Canada. When the Stanley Cup came to Salmon River, the first Hockeyville winner in 2006, she was interviewed by CBC and was on the front page of the Chronicle Herald holding The Cup. She attended three World Figure Skating Championships and numerous Briers where she befriended Olympic Gold Medalist - Brad Gushue, and his family. In her “spare time”, she crafted needle work of all kinds, including her Christmas village made of plastic canvas, enjoyed traveling, all music, and TV game shows. Marjorie particularly loved cooking for her family, and will be remembered for her fantastic fudge, butterscotch rolls, pie crust and brown beef stew. With her upbeat personality and positive outlook on life, the word “NO” rarely passed her lips and her quick wit and keen sense of humour endeared her. She filled the role of sister, wife, aunt, cousin, friend; but her most precious was that of Mother. Marjorie is survived by her children, Cathy Hayward, Layne Hayward, Crowes Mills; brother, Clifford (Emily) Lane, Portapique; sisters, Georgie (Myles) Rushton, Sutherlands Lake; Beulah (Rex) Trask, Truro; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Sears, Frances MacNarin, Moncton; several much loved nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Rolfe Sundby Hayward; son, Rolfe Bertram (Buddy) Hayward; brother, Keith (Albie) Lane and his wife, Helen; sisters, Evelyn and Lillian; sister-in-law, Grace and nephew, David Rushton. Marjorie was an adherent of the Londonderry Station Community Church and a member of Acadia Rebekah Lodge.
