With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Violet Valerie Anderson who passed away on Dec. 23, 2011, surrounded by the love of her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Dec.19, 1925, in Liverpool, N.S., Violet was the only child of the late Irving and Bernice (Wentzell) Corkum.
She spent her first years aboard ship with her parents, but by school age her father had hung up his sea captain’s hat and joined first, the police force and then, the RCMP. The family moved throughout Nova Scotia, finally moving to Sydney where Violet attended school at Argyle, Central and Sydney Academy and where the family joined Christ Anglican Church on George St. It was also here, in Sydney, that Violet met the love of her life, Charles, and they married and raised their four children. She has been a great source of love, inspiration and support to her entire family.
Violet leaves to mourn, her husband of 67 years, Charles; daughter, Bernice, at home; three sons, Wade (Celia), Sydney, Gordon (Julie), Sydney River, and David (Norah), Ball’s Creek. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Wade’s children, Patty (Scott) Gouthro and children, Tyler, Kyle and Emma, Dartmouth, and Bruce (Jennifer) and sons, Mitchell and Matthew, Greer, South Carolina; Bernice’s children, Raymond (Jacqueline) Adams and children, Jadzia, Jorja, Rayce and Téa, Sydney, Anita (Rob) Yates and daughters, Samantha and Lindsey, Comox, BC, and Colin (Sarah) Adams, Glace Bay; Gordon’s son, Kevin, Sydney River; and David’s children, Jennifer (Aaron) and daughter, Moira, Charlottetown, PEI, Wendy, Michelle, Jody, Charlie, and Kate, Ball’s Creek. She is also survived by a niece, Julie Anderson, Vancouver, BC, and nephew, Cameron Anderson, and their mother Jean Anderson, Porter’s Lake, NS.
Violet was predeceased by her parents and by her brother-in-law, John (Jean) Anderson.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
