It is with broken hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of Norman Cameron, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 at the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his family, whom he loved dearly.
Norman was born in Sydney and raised in Whitney Pier. He was the son of the late Veronica Baldwin.
He was employed in the financial business for the past 30 years and retired from the Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Sydney. Norman was an avid sportsman. He played sports all his life from little league, baseball, bantam, senior, fastball, slow pitch; he was a member of the Radar Base Curling Club and in the past two years, he was in a local pool league. Norman was a “diehard” New York Yankees and Montreal Canadiens fan.
His is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; son, Norman, Ontario; his daughter, Janet Lynn (Ryan) Coles, Ontario; his grandson, Alexander (the light of his life); granddaughters, beautiful Emma and Ruby Coles; his sisters, Anne Marie Moffatt, Sydney and Frances (Pat) Muldoon, Ontario, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his mother, Norman was predeceased by his grandparents, Marcelon and Annie Cormier, aunts, Charlotte and Edie Cormier and his uncle, Pat Cormier.
There will be no visitation by request. Norman donated his remains to Dalhousie University, Halifax for the advancement of medical education and research.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Pastor Bruce DeYoung and Pastor Kevin Mattatal. There will be a reception to follow.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the VON, the Cancer Centre, or the Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
