The MacIntyre family are very saddened to announce the passing of their brother, Rev. Father John Joseph MacIntyre on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011.
Father was the son of the late Norman and Christene (Nicholson) MacIntyre of Boisdale.
Father was born on June 1, 1939, at Leitches Creek, C.B. and grew up in Boisdale, C.B. He was ordained a Catholic priest on May 22, 1966, at St. Joseph’s Church in North Sydney and then served at St. Theresa’s, Sydney, St. Anthony Daniel, Sydney, St. Paul’s, Dartmouth, Star of The Sea, Canso, St. Agnes, Littler Dover, St. Joseph’s, Little Bras d’Or and St. Joseph’s, Port Hawkesbury. Father then joined the military as Chaplain and served at CFB, Kingston, CFB, Halifax, Shannon Park, Squadron and Dockyard, CFB, Shearwater, CFS Holberg and CFB, Chilliwack, B.C.
After retiring from the Armed Forces in 1995, he returned to the Diocese of Antigonish where he served as Pastor at Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L’Ardoise and Pastor of St. Leo’s Parish and St. John the Baptist Parish, Glace Bay.
Father will be sadly missed by his sisters, Marjorie (Don) MacKay, Mary (Gerald) Lawless; brothers, Norman (Leona), Donnie (Gail). Father is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation for Father will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, 7-9 p.m. at St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay. Father will then be transferred to St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen, Thursday, Dec. 29 for visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Bible Vigil commencing at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at St. John’s Church, Glace Bay. A luncheon will be held at St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay, with interment to follow at St. Andrew’s Parish Cemetery, Boisdale.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Father’s memory may be made to Palliative Care, VON or the Cancer Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
