The death of Lilla Gilroy, age 101, occurred peacefully at Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche, on Monday, December 26, 2011 while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late John and Jane (Hyatt) Fraser.
Lilla was a member of the Rebecca's, the Pythian Sisters, the Rodney Ladies Aid and the Baptist Church Willing workers. She enjoyed sewing, baking, quilting and especially spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by sons Edward Gilroy, Truro, Walter (Caroline), Lander, Wyoming; daughters Jean Taggart, Dartmouth and Marie at home; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Layton; brothers Alvin, Harry, McGilvary "Gillie", Lloyd and sister Ethel; son-in-law Rod Taggart; daughter-in-law Shirley Gilroy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill (902-597-2361). Visiting hours will take place at the Springhill Baptist Church on Thursday from 10 am until 11 am. The funeral service will be held at the Springhill Baptist Church on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11 am, Pastor Paul Barry officiating. Burial will follow in the Rodney Cemetery.
