Mary Petitpas Martell Furlong, of Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at the Cove Guest Home.
Born in Arichat, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Eugenie (Briand) Petitpas.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Sydney.
She is survived by her four children, Jean (Stewart) Stage, Ontario, Frances (Stanley) Dean, Sydney, Wayne, Nanaimo, B.C., and Daniel (Joanne), Sydney; two sisters, Alice Peinsznski, Dutch Brook, and Theresa Pouchelu, Sydney; one brother, Joseph, Sydney; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Martell in 1956 and her second husband, Matthew Furlong in 2001, two brothers, Walter Jr. and Francis, three sisters, Emma Fitzsimmons, Sister Genevieve Petitpas (Filles de Jesus) and Margaret (in infancy).
Visitation for Mrs. Furlong will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service with Liturgy of the Word will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Saturday, 10 a.m., with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
