Sister Eileen Tobin died peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the CND Health Care Center in Sydney.
Born in New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Tobin and Mary Ann (Lynch) Tobin.
Sister Tobin made her religious profession in the Congregation of Notre Dame on August 28, 1940. Sister Eileen’s teaching career began in Montreal, where she taught High School for fourteen years. Sister served as Superior at Mabou Convent for six years, and held the role of Provincial Superior of the Congregation for three years. She was instrumental in setting up the St. Joseph Renewal Center in Mabou; and was well known in the Sydney and surrounding area as a Spiritual Director for many people. Sister also served in Newcastle, N.B., Sydney Mines and in 2002 because of declining health, she took up residence at the CND Health Care Center in Sydney.
Sister was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her sisters, Susan, Catherine, Theresa and Dora and brothers, Joseph, Patrick, James, Richard and Thomas. She is survived by several nieces and nephews residing mostly in New Brunswick and Halifax.
Visitation for Sister Tobin will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Sunday, November 22, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Daniel Church on Monday at 11 am with Father Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
