THOMPSON, CHARLES ROBERT (BOB) - After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the death of Charles Robert (Bob) Thompson on January 2, 2012 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Bob was born on April 21, 1940 at Fredericton, NB, a son of the late Charles and Evelyn (Hanson-Crawford) Thompson. He worked in his early years as a taxi driver in Oromocto, a garage mechanic in Fredericton and later for 27 years as a Heavy Duty Mechanic at Ste. Anne Nackawic Pulp Mill. Bob was an honorary member of the Upper Valley Antique Car Club for many years. He spent his days working on his antique cars, which was his passion. He loved snowmobiling, car shows, camping, campfires and spending time with his family and friends. He is best known for his smile and the twinkle in his eye. Bob is survived and will be missed by his loving wife, Carolyn (Barber) Thompson; daughters, Mechile Moolenbeek (Craig), Ottawa, ON, Patti Davis (Earl), Fredericton, NB, Paula Brooks (Keith), Southampton, NB; son, Donald Thompson, Fredericton, NB. Loving grandfather to Dana and Danielle Stairs, Nicholas Moolenbeek, Alexandria and Brooke Davis, Misty and Mary Brooks. Great grandfather to Dakota, Gabriella and Mya. Sisters, Myrna Thompson, Toronto, ON and Sandra Crawford, Dartmouth, NS; sisters-in-law, Myrna Kelly, Fredericton, NB; nephew, Rick Kelly, Rusagonsis and niece, Lori Mallory, St. Andrew’s. Brother-in-law, John Barber (Millie), Moncton, NB; sisters-in-law, Edie Daniels (Daryl) and Ada Legassie (Bob), both of Quispamsis, NB; brother-in-law, Walter Barber (Karen), Maple Ridge, NB; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, his twin infant sister, Gloria Thompson, Monty Kelly and Garth Crawford.
Visiting hours will be held at Maple Ridge Wesleyan Church, 1125 Route 605, Maple Ridge, NB on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the church with Rev. Nick Graham and Rev. Wayne Blinn officiating. Interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Thornton, Dale Pike, Elmo Brewer, Glen McGaghey, David Moore and Larry Moore. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to make a donation in memory of Bob, the family has suggested the Maple Ridge Cemetery or charity of the donor’s choice. Special thanks to the many doctors and nurses he had over the past 19 months of illness. The oncology and dialysis departments at St. John Regional, the dialysis unit and ER unit along with others at Upper River Valley Hospital along with the staff of 4SW at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.
