Mary Louise MacKinnon, of the Esplanade, Sydney, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born July 23, 1928, in Brookline, Mass., and raised in Big Beach, Cape Breton, Louise was the daughter of the late Mary MacNeil.
Mom was a very loving mother, grandmother and friend to all she met and to all who knew her. Besides putting her family first, her love for animals had no end. She will be missed by all her friends and neighbours who received the gift of her baking and the staff of the Bargain Store, where she visited on a daily basis.
Surviving are her daughter, Florence (Joe) Axworthy; sons, Angus, Ron (Serge) and David (Rhodena); seven grandchildren, Laurie, Rodney, Jolene, Kim, Richard, Bernard and Lisa; 12 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was also second mom to very special cousins, Stephen and Barbara.
Besides her mother, Louise was predeceased by her husband, Leo MacKinnon; loving partner, Charlie MacDonald; son-in-law, Joseph Mancini; daughter-in-law, Diane (Hussey) MacKinnon; and Sparky, her dog of 15 years.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, 11 a.m., with Rev. Joe MacNeil officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to Palliative Care or the Two Rivers Wildlife Park.
