It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend, Eileen MacKinnon, on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Eileen was the daughter of the late Harry and Katherine (Strickland) Keeping.
Eileen’s spirit and her love of family and close friends knew no bounds and she will forever be remembered for her tireless and unconditional affection. Eileen was employed at Sears in Glace Bay for 25 years, but her life’s work was her unwavering care for those whom she loved and cherished. She was an avid bowler until her last months and almost never missed club with her lifelong friends, Newie, Eva, Jean, Betty-Lou, Jeanie and Annie.
Eileen is survived by her three children, Donna (Patrick) Lee of Dartmouth, Duane (Theresa) MacKinnon of Calgary and Darrell (Debbie) MacKinnon of Glace Bay; sister, Ruth (Billy) Petrie and brother, Ross (Linda) Keeping. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Mark, Daniel, Renee, Eldon and Kevin.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fabian and younger brother, Albert.
Out of respect for Eileen’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 6, 2012, at Holy Cross Parish in Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
