It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we must announce the sudden passing of our dear and lovely grandmother, Joyce Fraser, age 85, on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck.
Born on Feb. 24, 1924, in Campbellton, N.B., Joyce was the daughter of the late Bill and Della (Gallop) McKinnon.
Joyce was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, a member of the UCW, Ruth Unit, a church representative on the Sydney Presbytery, belonged to Bible study, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She spent her working life at Woolco Department Store, Sydney River, where she made countless friends.
Joyce had a love of music and could often be heard singing or whistling at home or in church. Her infectious smile and beautiful spirit will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Ray Girvan, her brother, Everett ‘Ev’ McKinnon, both of New Brunswick; and her only grandson, Scott Guy (Linda Pelly), Halifax.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Warren Fraser, her devoted daughter, Linda Guy in August 2009, and her sister, Bernice Leggett.
A private family visitation will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service for Joyce will be held 2 p.m., Thursday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
