OLIVER, Kenneth Wayne “Ken” – 54, Truro, passed away suddenly, as a result of heart complications, on Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012, at his home. Born January 29, 1957, in Halifax, he was a son of Doris Oliver, Montreal, and the late Eric “Alec” Cain and was raised by his aunt, Joan Byard, Montreal, and her husband, the late Bill “Fats” Byard. Ken worked at Cobequid Educational Centre for many years, where he took great pride in his work and also the many students he befriended. Following his “official” career at CEC, he went on to work for Town of Truro as custodian of town hall. Never fully retired, he still worked at town hall and at CEC. Ken was an avid collector of many things: coins, antique die-cast car models, sports cards, etc. If it could be collected, Ken had it! Along with his mother, Ken is survived by his wife, Gail (Mayne) Oliver; step-children, Judi Fisher, Bible Hill; Anita Fisher, Dartmouth; Dan (Alicia) Fisher, Conqueral Mills; step-grandchildren, Hayley and Quinn Nichols; siblings, Tony, Sonny, Tanya, Terry, Tracey, Jeffery, Cindy, David, Juliette, Joey, Kelly, Joanne, Dean; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ken’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., today, January 7, 2012. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Cobequid Educational Centre Auditorium, 34 Lorne Street, Truro. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ken’s memory to LETR (Special Olympics) are welcomed. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by
