WADE, ROBERT “BOB” CECIL - Robert (Bob) Cecil Wade (retired Warrant Officer, R.C.E.M.E.) of Hammonds Plains, NS (previously of Central Blissville, NB) (March 21, 1930 – January 5, 2012) passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with leukemia in the Palliative Care Unit at the VG Site, QEII Hospital, Halifax, NS. Born in Devon, NB; predeceased by parents Ralph and Laura (Cornish), brothers Ralph, Jr. (1975), James (2000) and Dwaine ‘Buddy’ (2005) and a sister Lillian Sherwood (1998). Dear brother of Ben (Anne) Wade, Grandbay-Westfield, NB, Basil (Ziggy) Wade, Fort McLeod, AB, Doris Higgins, London, ON and Linda (Rick) Dingley, Hanwell, NB. Devoted husband to Shirley (Lyon), his wife of 60 years (married July 7, 1951 in Kingston, ON); loving father to Marilyn Dion, Hamilton, ON, Cheryle Wade-Lee, Toronto, ON and Rob (Lynn) Wade, Hammonds Plains, NS. Grandfather to Matthew Wade, Gregory Wade, Krystle Lee, Katherine Lee, Katrina Lee, Lisa Bernier, Michelle Wade and Joy Dion; great-grandfather to Zachary Purnell; uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bob enlisted in the Royal Canadian Signals in June 1949 and re-enlisted in September 1956 in the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers specializing in the field of Communications. During a military career of over thirty years, he served in Canada, Germany, Northwest Territories and Egypt. He was a member of the Peace Keeper Association "The Blue Helmets", the United Nations Emergency Force, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55; Past Master of Masonic Lodge #42 in Fredericton Junction; the New Brunswick Credit Union Board of Directors, past Chairman of the Hoyt Fire Department. Bob was a member and Clerk of Session of the Patterson United Church, Wirral, NB, as well as a member of St. Luke’s United Church, Tantallon, NS.
His distinguished service in the Canadian Armed Forces was recognized when he received The Nobel Peace Prize. Bob loved square dancing with Shirley, listening to music, singing, playing guitar, photography, fishing, hunting, golf, curling, electronics and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral to take place at Patterson United Church in Wirral, NB on January 9, 2012 at 11:00am with Rev. Jeffro Bursey officiating. Interment will be at the Patterson United Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 8 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. A Masonic service will be held at 1:30 and a Legion tribute at 7:00 at Sunbury Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s United Church in Tantallon, NS on January 11, 2012 at 11:00am led by Rev. Kevin Little. Special thanks to the staff of the Medical Day Unit, 4 North, VG Site, QEII Hospital, and to friends who visited. Donations made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. For those who are able, donations of blood would also be a welcome tribute.
