With broken hearts, the family of Darren Michael Tatlock, announce his tragic passing in his 29th year, on Nov. 22, 2009, in New Waterford.
Born and raised in New Waterford, he was the son of Olivia MacKinnon and David Tatlock.
Darren graduated from Breton Education Centre. He spent some time working on the West Coast after graduating from the travel and tourism course. For the past four years, Darren worked at Signature Styles Call Centre in New Waterford.
Darren was an avid Philadelphia Flyers fan and he also loved the Blue Jays. Darren’s baseball team, New Waterford Cardinals, won the Nova Scotia championship in the early 90s. He was so proud and this was a highlight in his short-lived baseball career.
His pleasant exterior was matched by a very gentle heart.
Darren is survived by his girlfriend, Candace (Poirier) Handrahan. For the past three years Darren’s life centred around his precious three-year-old daughter, Ellie. His love for his stepdaughter, Madison, was constant.
Throughout his life, Darren and his mother Olivia were always connected with a deep, loving relationship. His father, David, was a valued friend as well as a parent. Darren had a loving and strong bond with his only sibling, David, age 33, which was very evident.
Also left to mourn Darren’s passing are paternal grandparents, Norman and Betty (Chesal) Tatlock, Scotchtown; stepfather, Elliot Hogan; stepmother, Marilyn; several uncles and aunts.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Dan ‘Diddles’ and Mary (Muise) MacKinnon.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Paul MacNeil is Friday morning at 10 a.m. in The Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Avenue. Interment to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Following the mass, all are invited to join the family for a reception at the Carmel Centre.
In lieu of flowers, an educational trust fund has been set up at the Royal Bank, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford, where donations can be made to Darren’s daughter, Ellie, in care of Thomas Hickey.
