It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Mary Slade, of Ferris Street, Sydney, on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on Dec. 1, 1925, in Lord’s Cove, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hanna Hennebury.
In her earlier years, Florence was employed at the City of Sydney Hospital as a cook. She took great pride in her work and met many friends along the way. Florence was affectionately known as “Nanny” to family and friends. Her happiest times were spent out on the Mira at her bungalow on Trout Brook Road.
Surviving are her sons, Leslie (Beverly) and Sonny (Louise); daughters, Doris (Terry), Joyce (Bruce) and Gwen (Clair); 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Florence was predeceased by her husband, Absalom in 1975. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her brothers, Jack, Richard, Gordon, Earl, Fred and Mick and sister, Gladys.
According to Florence’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
