Michael Joseph MacNeil, 68, of Cornwallis Street, Sydney, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Roderick and Christena (MacNeil) MacNeil.
Joe retired in June 2011 from the Province of Nova Scotia Transportation Department. He was an avid golfer, a long time Red Wings fan and a loyal Grey Cup follower. Joe loved hanging out in the barn with his family and friends, as well as attending Sunday morning choir practice with the guys. Joe was known for taking spontaneous road trips with the love of his life, Audrey.
Surviving are his wife and best friend, Audrey (Collins); daughter, Kim (Dereck) Melbourne, Coxheath; son Duane, Kelowna, BC; grandson, Parker, his pride and joy.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday 6-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Thursday 10 a.m., with Rev. James Oliver officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
