Peter, ‘Big Papa’ Synishin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.
Peter was born in Thunder Bay, Ont., Aug. 22, 1915, to the late Michael and Mary (Mydanuik) Synishin. In 1939 he moved to Sydney, N.S. to work in the Sydney Steel Plant.
In Sydney, Peter met and married Pauline DiPenta. Upon Pauline’s death in 1994, he moved to Antigonish to live with his son, Wayne and daughter-in-law, Jane (Cash).
‘Big Papa’ will be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren, Peter (Mary K.) Kara (Sean), David (Suzi), Douglas (Cynthia), Meghan (Aaron) and his 11 great-grandchildren, in whom he derived so much pleasure. Peter is also survived by his sister, Barbara Shella, Thunder Bay, Ont. and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Steve and sister, Ann.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish, with Rev. Syd Mifflen presiding. Reception to follow in St. Ninian Place.
