James \'Jamsie\' Raphael MacDonald

James MacDonald, 74, of Thompson Street, New Waterford, passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at the New Waterford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Inverness, Jamsie was the son of the late Rannie C. and Flora (MacNeil) MacDonald.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel Church and a former member of the auditorium committee. Jamsie received his certified management accountant diploma from McMaster University and was employed as the audit supervisor for the Provincial Tax Commission in Sydney for 32 years.
He loved sports and was a devoted New York Yankee & Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Jamsie played hockey and was an avid jogger; he also played baseball for the New Waterford Giants for several years. He could also be seen in his backyard cutting wood, another hobby he greatly enjoyed.
But mostly, Jamsie will be remembered as a devoted family man with a gentle and compassionate nature.
He is survived by his wife, the former Isabel MacDonald; two sons, Kenny (Lisa), New Waterford, Kevin (Lisa), Ottawa; two brothers, Collie (Helen), Bernie (Leone), both in New Waterford; two sisters, Margaret (Gussie) MacIsaac and Ann MacKenzie, both in New Waterford. Jamsie loved his four grandchildren dearly, Zachary, Rhianna, Brenden, Addison; they were the apple of his eye. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and a brother-in-law, Ray MacDougall.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Kay, Cela, Theresa in infancy, one brother, Neil J., brothers,-in-law, Jackie MacKenzie and Buddy Sutherland.
Visitation for James will be held Monday, Nov. 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Avenue with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Cremation to follow with interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date.
All are invited to join the family for a reception at the Carmel Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jamsie's memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Parkinson's Association.
