McCARTHY – Helen Martha (nee Doerksen )
February 11, 1945 – November 22, 2009
Helen beloved wife of Blaine of Calgary passed away on November 22, 2009, at the age of 64 years. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our wife and mother, Helen. Helen Martha was born on February 11, 1945, in Herbert, SK, to David and Margaret Doerksen. She went to school in Main Centre and Herbert, SK, and when she finished she relocated to Swift Current, SK. There she met her husband Blaine. They moved to Calgary where she worked for many years at China City Restaurant making many treasured friends along the way. Helen most enjoyed family and friend get-togethers over coffee and tea, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. One of her favourite places to be was at the family cabin where she took pleasure in gardening and picking berries. Besides her loving husband, Helen is remembered by her children, Barry (Denise) McCarthy, Dean McCarthy (Tanya Zolis), and Tammy McCarthy (Morgan Simmonds); seven grandchildren, Samara, Shayla, Brendan, Dylan, Alycia, Jada and Rashaun; brothers, Jake (Roberta) Doerksen, and Henry (Betty) Doerksen. Helen was predeceased by her mother Margaret Doerksen, her father David M. Doerksen and her brother David H. Doerksen. A Celebration of Helen’s life was held at McInnis & Holloway’s Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service was held at Mountain View Memorial Garden, 1515 - 100 Street S.E., Calgary.
