Joseph KOPCHYNSKI
July 18, 1928 – November 23, 2009
Our dear father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon with his family at his side. He was born in Yorkton, SK on July 18, 1928. He attended school in Yorkton and then on to St. Joseph’s College to pursue a career in plumbing. He then went to work for Roy McKay as a plumber. He met mom in Yorkton and they were married in 1953. They moved to Weyburn, SK in 1958 where he worked at the Weyburn Mental Hospital. In 1966, the family moved to Prince Albert where he worked at North Park Centre until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed his cabin at Murray Point, all sports, including fishing, curling, football and Raider hockey. He was an active member of St. Michael’s Parish and a long time member of St. Michaels Knights of Columbus. He was a frequent visitor at Mars Foods and was always willing to help Mike set up the tents. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Sandy (Larry) Maximchuk and their children Andrea, Nicole (Jamie Fraese) and their children Hannah and Mason; his son Michael (Diane) Kopchynski and their children Stephan, Jason, Kristin and Evan. He is also survived by his sisters Rose Olshewski of Windsor, ON and Frances (Terry) McPhee of Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law Anne Muzyka of Ituna, SK, Agnes Sawchyn of Rose Valley, SK and Jean Sawchyn of Melville, SK; brothers-in-law Walter Koshman and Michael (Adele) Sawchyn and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie “Nell†(nee Sawchyn); his parents Angela and Michael Kopchynski and his sister Emily Rusnak. Prayer Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel with Mrs. Margaret Ferchuk officiating. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 1505 – 13th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Travis Myrheim. Private Family Interment will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
