John Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Bryan, 66 years old, of Baddeck, passed away quietly after a lengthy illness on Jan. 13, 2012. His dear friend, Gail, was at his side.
Ken was born July 8, 1945, in California and was raised in Miami, Florida, where he spent his adult life as a dedicated middle school teacher of children with learning disabilities. Having visited Baddeck many times over the years. Ken’s lifelong wish was to someday live on Cape Breton Island where his paternal grandmother had been born. Upon his retirement in 2001, Ken packed up his belongings in Florida, purchased the property on the Bay Road and built his dream house. Sadly, the ensuing health complications didn’t allow for him to enjoy his retirement dreams as he had planned. Ken was an avid boater, world traveler and animal lover who loved to sing. He had sung in the choir at St Michael’s here in Baddeck and was also a member of the Bras d’Or Yacht Club.
Ken leaves Terry (his sister), Nicole and Angela (his nieces), Zachary, Devon and Robert John (his great-nephews) and Anna Lucia (his great-niece), all of New Hampshire, many cousins, a multitude of friends worldwide and his dear friend, Gail Boudreau of Baddeck.
Ken was predeceased by his father, John Neil Bryan in 2004 and his mother, Lucia Trombetta Bryan in 1997, with whom he is now peacefully reunited in heaven.
Cremation has taken place and arrangements are being handled by MacAskill’s Funeral Home of Baddeck. A visitation and memorial service will be held at St Michael’s Church in Baddeck, Friday January 20th from 7 to 9 pm. Another memorial service will be held at a later date in Miami.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ken’s memory to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Diabetes Association.
