It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Joseph passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at the Glace Bay Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Connelly) McNeil, and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. Joseph was employed with Devco retiring in 1985 after 43 years of service. He was also a member of the Glace Bay Pensioners Club where he enjoyed playing 45s and pool.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Blanche (Browner); sons, Wendell (Brenda), Glace Bay, Barry (Marion), Gander, NF, Greg (Brenda) and Lorne, both of Stratford, ON; daughter, Marilyn (Paul) Willerton, Belleville, ON; sister, Martha McLean, Grand Mira; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his first wife, Verna (Gallant); sisters, Caroline, Bessie, Sadie, Christina ‘Kitty’, Nora; brothers, Billie, Neilie, Dan and Gerald.
Visitation for Joseph will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Conrad Edwards will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to a reception in the church hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Joseph, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
