MARKEN: Robert W. Marken of Swift Current, SK passed away at the Swift Current Care Centre on November 23, 2009 at the age of 77 years. A Funeral Service was held in the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home on Thursday, November 26, 2009 with Pastor Greg Kiel of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. The interment took place at the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Bob was born on the family farm (18-17-17-W. 3rd Mer) on May 14, 1932. He attended the Vergland school and Scotia School for a time, then completed his high school education in Swift Current. In 1950 he moved to Regina and attended Business College and then worked in the credit department of Sears. In 1957 he returned to Swift Current and continued to farm with his brother Tom, living with his mother until her health failed and she moved into the Swift Current Care Centre. In 1980, he and his brother Tom received the Family Farm Heritage Award for continuous operation of the family farm since 1910. Bob was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing piano, accordian and organ at many functions over the years and was a member of the Westwind Singles Square Dance Club. He spent several winters at New Westminister BC, where he visited many family members and friends. Bob had been a resident patient at the Swift Current Care Centre since 2004. Robert was predeceased by his father Theodore; mother Marie (nee: Huntley) and his brother Tom. He is survived by niece Dawn (Greg) Olson and their children Shawna and Kayla, Kindersely, SK; and many cousins. Bob had a multitude of friends and family that the loved to visit with. His kindness and positive nature will be missed by all who knew him. Bob was very proud of his nieces and was very generous to them. He was very pleased to think that he had given Shawna her first car -- his 1984 Grande Marquis. Bob gave his piano to Kayla and was very proud to have someone follow in his musical footsteps. Memorial donations to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Swift Current Care Centre Auxilliary, would be appreciated by the family.
