DONALD HENDERSON HOPKINS

DONALD HENDERSON HOPKINS

March 25, 1928 - January 22, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the death on January 22 of our beloved Don, after a year long illness. He passed peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital with his adoring wife Joan and daughter Tannis by his side. He is also survived by brother Charles, cousins Nancy Bown and Grace Hitchcock and many nieces and nephews.
He was a grandson of George Henderson Hopkins, the founder of Hopkins Landing, BC, where he spent many blissful years during his childhood, and then later his retirement.
Don was a man of many parts but his primary working life was spent at the National Film Board of Canada in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and then Vancouver. He was a gifted painter and sculptor and has left a beautiful legacy of work. He also took great joy in working in the yard at Hopkins Landing where he cultivated many flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and a Japanese garden.
He was an intelligent, gentle, loving and thoughtful man, devoted to his family and his community. Don will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to some worthy organization in his name. There will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
